Exodus 5:1 "Moses told Pharaoh, Thus saith
the Lord God of Israel, Let My People Go..."
I do my best to be a good little boy and keep up to date with the computer
industry but some things just jump out at me. At the oddest moments it's
as if I were suddenly struck by revelation.
That day I was just sitting in my car at a stop light when one of these
revelations dawned -- I suddenly felt like Martin Luther, like Rambo, like
dare I say - Charelton Heston...
Yeah Moses...
In this revelation, or vision if you will, I saw myself -- I mean Moses
rise up from among the oppressed people. I marched right up to Bill Gates--
I mean Pharaoh to stand boldly before him in his throne room -- I mean office
in Redmond-- I mean Egypt where they are building 'Cairo.' I proclaim loudly,
"Let My People GO!!!" There the Dynast Bill sits high upon
his throne. He watches haughtily as I do a few miracles. He asks his magicians
if they can do the same? Can they aquire my technology? Nothing I say seems
to be heard.
As I walk away from the "pious golden ruler," I wonder what's
in store for the chosen people. Will we have to make bricks with no straw
in our clay? It's always seemed odd that the ones who try to decide our
fate rarely share in it. Pharaoh has his plans for the world, but has he
considered what the chosen people really want?
I've heard about the effects of some things that have been
decreed forth out from Egypt. The office manager 'Bob' stands in the forefront
of my mind -- and stories of IE4.0b being a predator that destroys your
Netscape installations. I know that these are things that I NEVER want.
Must I change homes every year or two, just so my appliances will work?
I personally like having different rooms -- one for eating, one for reading,
one for watching TV. I don't want all my rooms mushed into one. Take off
your crown so you can hear --I don't want an 'explorer shell' that tries
to cram everything into one junk room.
Will the king hear the voice of the people, or just the agreeing murmurs
of court syncophants.
I've been nominally asked where I'd like to go today, but I haven't been
asked how I want to build my house. Why would someone else think they know
what is best for me? Does everyone need a monolithic structure? A pyramid,
a tomb to the ego of a great pharaoh? I first and foremost want a house
that keeps out lice and frogs, then I'll worry about how pretty the paint
looks. Or perhaps an energy efficient home, planned for easy expansion
-- IF I choose to add other rooms.
Oh 'Great One,' hear the voice of the one crying -- let not your heart
be hardened like the Pharaoh of old, "Let My People Go!" |
